Mutual influences between numerical and non-numerical quantities in comparison tasks

چکیده

Humans possess a numerical intuition that allows them to manipulate large non-symbolic quantities. This ability has been broadly assessed with the help of number comparison tasks involving simultaneously displayed arrays. Many authors pointed out manipulation (or lack thereof) non-numerical features deeply impacts performance in these tasks, but specific nature this influence is not clear. study investigates interaction between and quantity judgement tasks. Adult participants performed five distinct each based on target dimension: numerosity, total area, dot size, convex hull, mean occupancy. We manipulated relation other dimensions measure their respective task performance. Results showed area hull substantially affected numerosity comparisons. The dots conversely acted as an informative dimension when had make decision or hull. Our results illustrate adults flexibly use non-target visual cues perform judgements. Overall, suggests found explicit deliberate rather than due implicit integration processes.

Framing of Numerical Quantities

Judgments and decisions are dependent upon the information available. They are also dependent upon the way the information is presented. Message characteristics that make recipients willing to endorse a message have been discussed within the rhetoric tradition and studied empirically in the psychology of persuasion (Cialdini, 2007), advertising (Armstrong, 2010), and health communication (Berry...

A comparison between numerical and analytical modeling of ECAP

Recent developments in nanostructured products draw considerable attention to ultrafine grained materials. These materials are normally manufactured by different severe plastic deformation (SPD) methods. In the present study, analytical models and finite element method (FEM) are used to calculate strain imposed to a specimen that was deformed by equal channel angular pressing (ECAP). In additio...

Generalized numerical renormalization group for dynamical quantities

In this paper we introduce a new approach for calculating dynamical properties within the numerical renormalization group. It is demonstrated that the method previously used fails for the Anderson impurity in a magnetic field due to the absence of energy scale separation. The problem is solved by evaluating the Green function with respect to the reduced density matrix of the full system, leadin...

assessment of deep word knowledge in elementary and advanced iranian efl learners: a comparison of selective and productive wat tasks

testing plays a vital role in any language teaching program. it allows teachers and stakeholders, including program administrators, parents, admissions officers and prospective employers to be assured that the learners are progressing according to an accepted standard (douglas, 2010). the problems currently facing language testers have both practical and theoretical implications but the first i...
